Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to begin their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the group reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Seekers and Planners tables.

Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
