Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Police state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found many other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they added.
City officials said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior representative stated the vandalism made him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
